Dia De Los Muertos 2016

Happy Halloween!  Another Day Of The Dead event went without disappointment.  Everywhere I pointed my camera there was a great costume to snap a picture of.  The festivities began at 3 pm and continued on till 10 pm ending with a great street parade.  The temperature was in our lower 80’s with clear skies.  The day was perfect and the spirit of the celebration was high.  The creativity of the local citizens was impressive to say the least.  Wow!  What a spectacular display of creativity and talent.  We hope to see you again next year! Celebrating Day Of The Dead

We are just two weeks away from Casa Tina’s Annual Celebration of Day Of The Dead or “Dia De Los Muertos”.  A Mexican tradition to pay homage to those whom have passed.  A celebration typically taking three days beginning November 1st with food, drinks, parties and activities that the deceased enjoyed.  In Latin tradition the dead is celebrated for the life they had and it would be considered an insult to mourn and express sadness. In Mexican folklore it is said that during Dia De Los Muertos the dead are awakened from their eternal sleep and join the celebrations with their loved ones.  Streets decorated with calacas and calaveras(skeletons and skulls) and storefronts displaying the alters of the deceased.  This is a most interesting and most colorful event of the year you sure wouldn’t want to miss.  For more information for this event checkout our events calendar on our Agenda page. Day Of The Dead in Dunedin will be held on Saturday October 29th 2016.

Oktoberfest 2016

While Hurricane Matthew threatened our east coast, those who ventured out to not miss the local festivities of this years Oktoberfest, the Dunedin Brewery still hosted their annual celebration with beer, sausage, and great live music. On Saturday night the featured outdoor band was the Joe Marcinek Band which when I briefly spoke with Joe he stated he was originally from Chicago.  JMB music is funky, jazzy, and with a little rock-n-roll.  I enjoyed discovering their compilations of old-school sounds with their original tracks.  Made up of guest musicians, (Steve Molitz on keyboard, Freekbass on bass, drummer Pete Koopmans, and an unidentified saxophone player) Joe Marcinek Band gave us an evening filled with good vibes and electric sounds that made the crowd dance the night away.
